The hill, the castle and the harbor

Paralio Astros took its name from the star-like shape of the hill on its northern side, known as Nisi. At the top stands the old castle, built in 1256 AD by Prince William of Villehardouin to protect local residents from raids.

The area is ideal for quiet walks around the picturesque harbor, among fishing boats and sailboats, as well as short explorations through the narrow streets of the village.

Beaches and daily walks

The beaches of Astros stretch for several kilometers and offer variety: from quieter sandy spots to organized beaches, so every visitor can find their own pace.

It is also worth visiting the historic town of Astros nearby, which gives a different and more historical view of the area.

History and nearby visits

In Astros, the Second National Assembly of the Greeks was convened in the spring of 1823 at the Karytsiotis School. Today the building houses the Archaeological Museum of Astros, with marble inscriptions from the villa of Herodes Atticus in Loukou, finds from ancient Thyrea and objects from the Classical and Hellenistic periods.

Another worthwhile visit is the archaeological site of Eva, near the Monastery of Loukou northwest of Astros. There, in the 2nd century AD, Herodes Atticus built his villa of about 20,000 sq.m., an important site rich in sculptures and mosaics.

Almost opposite the villa is the Monastery of Loukou, built in the 12th century AD on the ruins of a 5th-century temple and dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Savior.

Food in Paralio Astros

Along the seafront, from Nisi to the Portes area, there are many tavernas, restaurants and cafés for every time of day.

Around the square and near the harbor parking area you can find casual options, pizza, pasta and café-restaurants for an easy meal by the sea.

In the inner street that starts from the square kiosk you will find quick food options such as souvlaki, crepes and yogurt. Fish and meat tavernas are also available near the small pier, along Zafeiropoulou street and close to the school.

Towards the Nafplio side, in the Glyfada area, there is also a tavern with fish and meat options. In the Portes area, Café-Restaurant La Luna offers everything from small dishes for ouzo to pizzas and pasta.

Nightlife and café bars

Paralio Astros has many café bars for all ages, from the square to the small harbor. For visitors who want to stay out late, Sail In Club is located on the road from Paralio Astros to Astros.
